There is no place better for political buffs to visit than the District of Columbia. The federal government of the United States has three branches – Congress, Supreme Court, and President – and all are located here. In addition, there are 176 foreign embassies, as well as the main headquarters of many organizations, lobbying groups, and trade unions. Washington, DC is a fully planned city, based on the original design of architect Pierre Charles L’Enfant, who was commissioned by President Washington in 1791. The low skyline is due to the Heights of Buildings Act of 1910, which stipulates that the height of buildings cannot exceed the width of the adjacent street, plus 20 more feet.

If you’re seeking monumental green spaces that promote contemplation and relaxation, Washington, DC, will fulfill all your wishes! Our eye care team often spends downtime next door in Farragut Square, a cute park with lush lawns and benches. If you’re looking for a larger park, head to Lafayette Square, set to the north of the White House. Some of the most inspirational monuments in the world, including the Washington Monument obelisk and the colossal Lincoln Memorial are only a few blocks away.
